THE HOUR HAS COME

SPIRITUAL COMMUNION: 7th SUNDAY IN EASTERTIDE

✠ In the name of the Father, and of the Son,

and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Lord Jesus, I come to you in sorrow for my failings,

and confess to you my weakness and unbelief.

A brief pause for silent reflection follows

I confess to almighty God

that I have greatly sinned,

in my thoughts and in my words,

in what I have done and in what I have failed to do,

through my fault, through my fault,

through my most grievous fault;

therefore I ask blessed Mary ever-Virgin,

and all the Angels and Saints,

to pray for me to the Lord our God.

May almighty God have mercy on us,

forgive us our sins,

and bring us to everlasting life. Amen.

THE GLORIA Glory to God in the highest,

and on earth peace to people of good will.

We praise you, we bless you, we adore you,

we glorify you, we give you thanks for your great glory,

Lord God, heavenly King, O God, almighty Father.

Lord Jesus Christ, Only Begotten Son,

Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father,

you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us;

you take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer;

you are seated at the right hand of the Father,

have mercy on us.

For you alone are the Holy One,

you alone are the Lord,

you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ,

with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father. Amen.

COLLECT: Graciously hear our supplications, O Lord,

so that we, who believe that the Saviour of the human race

is with you in your glory, may experience, as he promised,

until the end of the world, his abiding presence among us.

Who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

one God, for ever and ever.

READING FOR THE DAY: Acts 1:12-14 After Jesus was taken up into heaven

the apostles went back from the Mount of Olives, as it is called,

to Jerusalem, a short distance away, no more than a sabbath walk;

and when they reached the city they went to the upper room

where they were staying; there were Peter and John, James and Andrew,

Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James son of Alphaeus

and Simon the Zealot, and Jude son of James. All these joined in continuous

prayer, together with several women, including Mary the mother of Jesus,

and with his brothers.

Responsorial Psalm 26(27):1,4,7-8

I am sure I shall see the Lord’s goodness in the land of the living.

The Lord is my light and my help;

whom shall I fear?

The Lord is the stronghold of my life;

before whom shall I shrink?

I am sure I shall see the Lord’s goodness in the land of the living.

There is one thing I ask of the Lord,

for this I long,

to live in the house of the Lord,

all the days of my life,

to savour the sweetness of the Lord,

to behold his temple.

GOSPEL OF JOHN CHAPTER 17.

Jesus raised his eyes to heaven and said:

‘Father, the hour has come:

glorify your Son

so that your Son may glorify you;

and, through the power over all mankind that you have given him,

let him give eternal life to all those you have entrusted to him.

And eternal life is this:

to know you,

the only true God,

and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.

I have glorified you on earth

and finished the work that you gave me to do.

Now, Father, it is time for you to glorify me

with that glory I had with you

before ever the world was.

The Upper Room for the Apostles

had been a place of anxiety and doubt,

even after the Resurrection.

However, the Apostles had not been left behind by Jesus,

but rather launched on their own journey to the Father.

Mary was with them too.

John was taking very seriously his commission from Jesus,

Jesus’s last words to him, to take Mary as his own mother.

She had been with Jesus longer than any of them,

as close to Jesus as a mother could be,

with that special Mother-Son relationship of genetic understanding

and maternal love.

“Behold your Mother….Behold your son”;

The Lord didn’t abandon us either.

Supported by the grace of God,

we can be content to be carried in prayer by the Lord Himself.

Inspired by the example of Mary,

we can say “Yes” to following Jesus

on the journey from Easter to Ascension;

to a glorious living-out of new values, a better way of living

in the Way of the Magnificat and the Beatitudes.

THE PROFESSION OF FAITH

I believe in God, the Father almighty,

creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary,

suffered under Pontius Pilate,

was crucified, died, and was buried;

he descended to the dead.

On the third day he rose again;

He ascended into heaven,

He is seated at the right hand of the Father, And he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church,

the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.Amen

THE PRAYER OF THE FAITHFUL

Through baptism we have been made one with Christ,

our high priest, and we share his intercessions before the

Father for the needs of the Church, the world

and of all people.

For Peace and Fortitude in Worry

In this age of anxiety & stress, we ask for your Presence to be made clearly

amongst us. Be with us as we confront illnesses that leave many of us in a

state of worry for our families, our friends, our colleagues, our communities,

our nation and our world.

As hospitals and health care providers seek to continue the healing ministry

of You, may they have fortitude for the road ahead, knowing that you are

walking this journey with them with your mighty Hand.

Remind them of both their strength and Your strength.

We ask for Your comfort upon those who have lost loved ones

during the time of this pandemic. May healing be upon those who are

physically and spiritually suffering through this season.

May the wilderness of this time & the uncertainty we may feel,

strengthen our resolve to lean on your word, abide in your presence,

and be guided by your enduring and powerful Spirit.

Let us recall the calming of the storm by your Hand.

Let us today and tomorrow and the days ahead

lean on Your fortitude, and resolve to care for each other

We ask Mary to pray with us, as we with her

bring our care and concern for the situation

in which we find ourselves

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee,

blessed art thou among women,

and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now,

and at the hour of our death.

Amidst the darkness, the confusion and the storm of worry,

may your Presence be made abundantly revealed so that Your light,

Your hand and Your strength, gives us steadiness, refuge, clarity of purpose,

and hope. Amen.

In this sound-filled world that we inhabit grant us space to rest awhile

by the still waters of your peace,

to hear the whisper of your voice,

and feel the warmth of your Spirit

within our souls.

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God;

for it is right and just.

It is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation,

always and everywhere to give you thanks,

Lord, holy Father, almighty and eternal God,

For after his Resurrection

that he might make us sharers in his divinity.

Therefore, overcome with paschal joy,

At the Saviour’s command

and formed by divine teaching, we dare to say:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name;

thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth

as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread,

and forgive us our trespasses,

as we forgive those who trespass against us;

and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil,

graciously grant peace in our days,

that, by the help of your mercy,

we may be always free from sin

and safe from all distress,

as we await the blessed hope

and the coming of our Saviour, Jesus Christ.

For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours

now and for ever.

Lord Jesus Christ, who said to your Apostles:

Peace I leave you, my peace I give you,

look not on our sins,

but on the faith of your Church,

and graciously grant her peace and unity

in accordance with your will.

Who live and reign for ever and ever. Amen.

Lord, I am not worthy

that you should enter under my roof,

spiritually.

in the Most Holy Sacrament of the altar.

I love You above all things,

and I desire to receive You into my soul.

Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally,

come at least spiritually into my heart …

I embrace You as if You were already there

and unite myself wholly to You.

Never permit me to be separated from You,”

THE PRAYER OF SURRENDER

Father, I abandon myself into your hands;

do with me what you will.

Whatever you may do, I thank you:

I am ready for all, I accept all.

Let only your will be done in me,

and in all your creatures—

I wish no more than this, O Lord.

Into your hands I commend my soul;

I offer it to you with all the love of my heart,

for I love you, Lord, and so need to give myself,

to surrender myself into your hands without reserve,

and with boundless confidence,

for you are my Father.
